I was suggested by multiple individuals to watch Parks and Recreation. The last time I was recommended to watch anything was The Office. Now I will get crucified for this, but I’ve only ever made it 2 episodes into The Office before calling it quits.
So when I was told I would love Parks and Rec I was a little skeptical to say the least.
Thank god I was proven wrong. It turned out to be my favorite television shows. It’s one of those rare shows that has a main protagonist yes, but it also gives some of the most etched out character arcs for everyone else as well.
I’ve rewatched it an unhealthy amount of times.

I’m going to give you a comparison. You know in elementary school when we’re taught outlines on how to write anything? They teach us conclusions are when you neatly wrap up all the loose ends and tie them up with a pretty bow. That is what Parks and Rec literally did. It is such a satisfying show to watch.

Most television shows I watch, I usually have a clear cut favorite character. This one was a difficult to just pick one. I couldn’t decide between Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson.
Side note: Whoever chose the names of the characters deserves hella accolades. They are so iconic.
Leslie in Season 1 was disliked by the vast majority, they definitely revamped her in the following seasons. I disagree.
She was cringy and over the top, but she, like the rest of us, was just figuring it out. And boy did she eventually figure it out. She’s one of the most kind, loyal, accepting, supportive and hardworking characters television has created. While figuring out her own life, she never gave up on the people around her, no did she ever give up on herself.
She developed these beautiful relationships with all of her coworkers, and oddly enough she was mad passionate about her job.
Of course Leslie is flawed, but the best part was, even though the majority of things didn’t always work out how she initially planned, she always made alternative pathways for herself.
And Ron? Let’s be honest with ourselves: he’s everyone’s favorite. It’s pretty self explanatory.

If you haven’t seen Parks and Rec I highly recommend it. Just give it a chance and it will make you feel so good. You’ll laugh and you’ll root for characters you initially thought you wouldn’t. The relationships between characters are so fun, and the actors are all amazing.
If you’re feeling sad, or you have a shitty day, Parks and Rec will cure that immediately. It’s such a feel good show that has insane replay value.
