So it’s been a week since Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was released, and I’m sure we all have some thoughts. We all have our stages of when we became Swifties, my time came to light when Red was initially released. For those of us that missed out on certain albums during the original release these rerecords have been so fun! Speak Now was originally an album I never got into, mostly because I never understood the story behind the album and to be honest I had never listened to the record in its entirety.

Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was definitely my first listen through of Speak Now. Let me tell you I was missing out. It literally marks the transition from country to pop for Taylor. I know the general consensus is the transition happens during Red, I think it definitely started at Speak Now.

I didn’t realize how painful this album was, I’ve been familiar with the glitter pen songs: Enchanted, Speak Now. But the rest of the album is painfully introspective, but with it being Taylor’s Version it is now almost retrospective. If it’s so painful for us as listeners to listen to this album, can you imagine what it must have felt like to rerecord the record?

For me the vault songs definitely did stand out, they will definitely be taking this rerecord to new heights. I’m just glad they’re a little more raunchy and fun than the rest of the album, it’s a really really nice break from the intensity of emotions – happy and sad.

I’d like to think that this album is solely for Taylor and the fans. She’s speaking to us, she’s thanking us. Songs like Long Live embody the whole of the album, it’s deeply autobiographical, but only the fans will appreciate her venting (I did not realize how much she was going through during Red and Speak Now). Even though she was still so young when she wrote this album, it just shows how talented she is/was with this rerecord. The lyrics are gut wrenching.

As a Evermore/Red girly, Speak Now is now probably my next favourite on the list. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. I don’t know what people are talking about when it comes to the new production, but I found it so much cleaner. Please appreciate the reverb on Haunted, it is absolutely flawless.

Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is a masterpiece at evoking thought.
