I discovered Ginny and Georgia back when Season 1 had been on Netflix for a while. It was on my recommended page, and everyone who has ever seen the show knows the minute Georgia showed up in the trailer I had to watch it. Side note: after watching the actress give interviews, lemme tell you that accent is mad talent.

Ginny and Georgia is ‘supposedly’ a cute little show about a relationship between mother and teenage daughter. It turns out to be so much more than that. Now I know everyone goes crazy for Euphoria – I was one of those people that couldn’t get past one episode. But Ginny and Georgia, in my personal opinion, gives a much more realistic glimpse into the current high school experience.

We are introduced immediately to this quaint little family of three: Georgia, Ginny, and Austin. None of them at all what they seem on first glance, they all have crazy dark secrets. The viewer is mainly privy to Georgia’s secrets – mainly because we get those AWESOME flashbacks. We get to see everything she goes through to eventually get to the point she’s at now, and boy is it a lot.

Which brings me to my next point… Georgia is a terrible person. Objectively. She’s not a great mom, sure she is a sacrificial mom, but she’s not good at the whole actual parenting part of things. But the way we get to see into Georgia’s life, it’s impossible not to root for the anti-hero. We don’t want her to get caught by the police, we want her to have her happy ending, we want her kids to understand.

In reality she deserves none of those things, and those kids should have run away a long time.

I won’t lie, when MANG was first introduced, I thought it was so cringy. But that’s exactly what high school is! It’s this non stop string of events that make us mentally want to some how erase our brain as adults.

MANG is a toxic group of girls that are besties with each other. Quite fitting with the entire premises of the show. Everyone is a toxic mess.. well except for Paul.
Ginny has moved around so much as a child she never put down roots, she never made friends. Within the first week of school in Wellsbury she’s made friends with some of the most popular kids in her class. Not to mention she finds herself in a quintessential love triangle. It’s all very high school tropes being fulfilled, but there’s underlying dark noir themes playing behind Ginny just trying to live a normal life.

It’s impossible for Ginny to have a normal life, not when her mom is Georgia. Ginny is overtly hated on by the fandom, again objectively, we should be sympathizing with her the most. She’s just a kid with a bat shit crazy mom.

That’s the beauty of this show. Perception really makes you think if your value system is as black and white as it seems.

Ginny and Georgia is such a captivating show, there was no way that Season 2 wasn’t going to blow up. Georgia is such a character, you can’t help see what she does next. She’s a car crash thats mad attractive, and we definitely cannot stop watching. Georgia has her walls up so high, the first time she finally lets them down shit does hit the fan in the Season 2 finale. I honestly don’t think she regrets a thing. Georgia is finally coming into her own. Maybe she finally saw what she was doing to her kids?

I could definitely do with less Maxine and more Abby next season. I missed Austin this season, his interactions with Zion were so precious. Paul being Paul is something we can all agree with, he’s the beacon of light in this entire shit show. Ginny got a lot more compassion this recent season from the audience, I think people are coming to realize she’s a victim of circumstance. Georgia being an independent badass would have been a much healthier route.

But definitely don’t watch Ginny and Georgia for the healthy relationships… do we?
