I started watching Bob’s Burgers after one of my best friends recommended the show to me. I could never really understand the appeal of animated adult television – probably had to do with the fact that I hadn’t watched any. Boy was I not prepared for what was coming.

Bob’s Burger’s after the first two episodes easily became my favorite TV show of all time.

Bob’s family is a quirky bunch trying to make in the world on the shoulders of their small family owned business. All the kids are involved and it is clear that they are part of the lower middle class, just trying to making ends meet paycheque to paycheque. It’s so relatable while at the same time there’s always some kind of background unrealistic events happening. It’s the perfect juxtaposition: a drab reality broken up by comedic zingers.

I’m part of the mass of people whose favorite character is Tina. Tina is a boss bitch and always is apologetically and eventually unapologetically herself. She’s the odd one out in general, but like the rest of us she’s figuring out her way. Between her love of erotic friend fiction, horses, and zombies, she’s the most relatable character in 2023. Plus she’s no hero, she puts her bra on one boob at a time.

Her storylines are my favourites – dealing with peer pressure, boys, her onslaught of hormones, dealing with a coffee addiction, the frequent anxiety attacks, etc. Tina Belcher is going through it with the rare smile and a man’s monotonous voice.

My other favourite is definitely Linda. Linda is such a wine glass half full kind of mom. Of course she has her favourites but she’s loyal and supportive whenever anyone in her family needs it.
Let’s be honest here – if we all had a sister like Gayle we’d all be a little Linda level of loopy.

Linda wakes up every day trying to her hardest to be the best mom and wife for her family – she’s not perfect but no one tries harder. Solo Linda expedition, now those are always wildly entertaining. She can easily be one of the most loveable characters on the show.

Are you finished watching Friends for the millionth time? It’s time to start Bob’s Burgers. I’d argue that Bob’s Burgers is the Friends of our generation – comparable for the vibes, not the storylines. Comedy, very unrealistic scenarios, even more unrealistic happy endings, all laced with the most real take of reality I’ve seen on television.

The animation is so visually pleasing, all the minor characters bring something to the table. But what really makes the show? The voice actors. They bring these characters to life. If you haven’t already, go watch a table read of Bob’s Burgers – even if you haven’t seen the show – you’ll understand the magic.

Please make your brain itch in all the right way by watching this gem.

My favourite television show ever.
