We have finally come to one of the most notorious Indian brands: Sabyasachi. Over the recent times I’ve heard it being called ‘overrated’, ‘repetitive’, ‘lazy’, etc. I disagree with the criticism. I find Sabyasachi deserving of all the accolades. Of course everyone goes through ruts here and there, but then he goes and reinvents and comes out with even more ravishing pieces that gets everyone talking. People may be sick of brides choosing Sabya, but the truth is that you are guaranteed a princess lengha if you choose him.
Sabya hasn’t been around as long as most people assume, just since the 90s. But look at the way he came into the Indian fashion industry with such a strong bang, and he has surpassed most of his contemporaries. I don’t know how he does it but he creates the lenghas that we all dreamed of as little girls. He not only replicates our dreams but he enhances them.

I’m a HUGE fan of color, and I think that’s my favorite part of Sabya. He puts color everywhere, even if it’s a more subdued neutral color there will be tiny hints of color. There’s multiple tiny elements that are on different spectrums of fashion, yet somehow he ties it all together. The patterns may be bold, or they may be intricate and dainty. But all in all they will always be serving royalty. Lenghas are of course his speciality, for good reason. The silhouettes are all consistent and versatile, not to mention flattering on multiple body types.
Styling a Sabya piece most of the time is not that difficult. Especially if it’s one of the heavier lenghas. The piece usually speaks for itself and it’s rare that makeup and jewelry won’t automatically compliment it. The more monochromatic looks require some more effort, but even that isn’t too difficult.
Honestly like I said, most of the pieces will always speak for themselves.

If you’re ever hesitant to try one of his pieces – which let’s be honest we won’t be with Sabya – the guaranteed pièce de résistance would be a saree. They are forever complimentary, and not one will be like the other. There’s so much versatility to choose from in terms of print, draping, silhouettes, fabrics, embroidery. There’s something for everyone.
Sabya does like to think outside of the box but it’s always enough to still be in the safe box. It’s never full on avant garde, which to be honest I would be curious to see that happen. Sabya letting go of all his creative juices now that would be a sight to see.
Wear a Sabya saree and everyone automatically looks like sex on a stick. They are so flattering and absolutely stunning.

Looking at these pictures you can see that the fabrics are high quality and the thread count is up there. There’s not a piece out of place. Even the prints are always symmetrical and sharp, there isn ever anything questionable. One of my favorite Sabya signature designs is definitely the usage of florals. Theres everyone else with florals and then there’s Sabya with florals. It’s such a fresh look and yet classy at the same time.
Sabyasachi although hasn’t been in the Indian fashion industry as long as some veterans, has changed and pioneered the game of switching it up. He brought a freshness to an otherwise pretty repetitive and stale bridal industry. I don’t believe that Sabya is overrated, over exposed probably, but I think the likeness of the brand is fair. You get something you like and you’ll be delivered exactly what you want.
He is now opening up stores in North America and let’s just say shopping first hand in a Sabyasachi store would be one hell of an experience. It would be like a fashion enthusiasts dream to experience all of the above in a physical setting.
Next stop… New York! Here I come.
