I was late to watching Emily in Paris, I got started when the trailer for season 3 came out. Season 1 was an absolute delight! It was such a refreshing chick flick in Paris. Now that’s not to say I don’t understand the criticism, but I feel like it was just an exaggeration of a group of people – kind of like us Canadians being oh so kind.

It was hilarious and so many aspects to the storyline. It wasn’t just Emily and boys, it was about the influencer stuff, her trying to fit in and getting rejected, the assimilation to culture, trying to make her friends circle, and of course: the wannabe avant garde garments.

I started Season 2 and it had lost all of its initial charm. The clothing was so much more garish, the side plots were laughable, and the main plot was dragging and struggling to figure itself out. Emily started to become unlikeable, Mindy was always singing and there were so many plot holes.

They completely dropped the influencer bit, I actually loved seeing her social media journey! There was way too much filler. Why were they so focused on Mandy’s singing and why not the deeper aspects of her life – her visa expiring, her father…ahem.

It got to a point where I was starting to have a hard time finishing the show.

Now I love that they introduced Alfie! That was probably a highlight, although they kind of derailed him into being whipped way too quick. I loved how independent and recluse he was, there was so much change with little reason to do so. We know next to nothing about him, and next thing we know he wants to flip his entire life over for Emily. I just didn’t buy it.

Gabriel and Camille. I’m not even going to get into that. I want them discontinue that storyline completely, they already dedicated an entire season to it, why another one?

I love clothes, I love anything avant garde. But the entire cast in season 2 pushed it way too hard for me. There was too much neon, there was an overload of latex, and way too many patterns and colors. It just wasn’t making any sense. Everything was so try hard. I don’t understand who said it was okay to walk around wearing the odd parings, it was faux pas after faux pas.

Now everything being said, will I be watching season 3? Yes. I need to see if the writers manage to some how salvage the mess. I’m still hopeful that they’ll bring back the vibes of Season 1. I want to see more of that and less of Madeline. Kate Walsh is one of my favorite actresses and somehow she finally portrayed a character I do not like. I love the whole exaggeration of the French and the Americans, but PULEASE can we work on the actual storyline again?

I still love the show, just not Season 2.
