While reading Axel I didn’t really get a feel for Dee, other than her being the most amazing loyal friend possible. It was hinted to in Axel that Beck and Dee were starting to have a thing for each other, and in this book we finally get to see how it plays out.
I’m pretty sure this book is going to be my favourite in the series.
**SPOILER ALERT**

To everyone else Dee came across as this immature, bag of cats that was dramatic for no reason. Somehow only Beck saw through all of that. He saw how broken she was and how lost she was. This was the book that pissed me off at the rest of her friends. When Beck told them she had her reasons for acting the way that she was they all questioned him.
She somehow had to talk to them each individually and explain everything she had gone through. Everyone was so focused on Izzy they forgot that Dee was a person too. Dee gave her life literally for her friends and lost her sanity while doing so. I felt for her. Not being seen and having the heart to forgive them all.
I wouldn’t have.
“When you love someone, you fight. You fight for them, and you fight with them. She needed me to fight for her then, and I’ll continue to do that until she can fight for herself again.”
The book is more about Dee working on herself as well as the romance. At the end of the day Beck is there, but he isn’t the one fixing her. She fixes herself and then finally enters in a monogamous serious relationship.
I absolutely adore Dee, especially when I didn’t expect to. Harper Sloan did an excellent job at writing this character.
“Just because you let someone in doesn’t mean you have to stop protecting yourself. It just means you have someone to share the job with.”
One of my favorite books out there. I think it’s time to read it again.
Highly recommend! 5/5
