Inventing Anna was an interesting piece of television. It was a fictional take on a very very non fictional story. It was extremely well made, and riveting from start to finish. The acting was spectacular, the sets were amazing, and the lengths of the plot was comical. Anna was someone who thrived on ‘faking it till you make it’. What I don’t really understand is how people kept falling for it.
I was surprised that hotel franchises fell for it!
Maybe it’s my skeptical nature but I really didn’t understand how everyone believed she came from copious amounts of money. I get it at first glance for sure you’d think she comes from money – her clothing ahem. But after a few times of her mooching off everyone around here wouldn’t someone get suspicious?

I’m sure the psychologists out there have somehow gone more into the dept of Anna’s story and figured out her deception and manipulation is due to some underlying cause. I’m definitely not going to be making an amateur diagnosis. But damn that girl cray cray. She was insanely delusional – the fact that she thought everyone was in love with her. But then the thought of ‘was she really delusional’ comes to mind. Most individuals really did love her.
Even the journalist fell for Anna’s story. She had to push and struggle against the feeling of maybe this girl isn’t as manipulative as she seems. That just speaks to Anna’s people skills.

Anna is now out of jail and wanting to retell her story in ‘her own words’. The thing is she’ll probably succeed. The Netflix series was made so that we all disliked her, but everyone turned out to be in awe of her. Which is usually the case with most con artists – how do they do what they do? The show is extremely well made, I kind of love how they made something that could’ve been a documentary and turned it into a miniseries. Captivating throughout.
It’s definitely worth watching, it makes you question a lot. Most of all it makes us think ‘What would Anna Delvy do?’.
That’s a rhetorical questions, never do what Anna does or would do.
