You usually know a chapter into a book if you’re going to like it or not. The beginning of Axel was immediately engaging. We meet Izzy and you know the girl has issues, it’s always a treat to slowly discover what happens to a character.

Enter Axel and she faints. Is there honestly a better opening than this for any romance novel?

Second chance romances are some of the best out there. But the thing with this book is, is it really a second chance? It’s more of just a random chance, neither one of them knew why exactly they were separated to begin with.

I know in today’s day and age it’s frowned upon the amount of control Axel has over Izzy but I love how she finds her own sense of control. Apart from in bed of course. She eventually finds her sense of self and she stands up for herself despite her demons.

The whole group of Axel’s friends mashing with Izzy’s is written so well. They all compliment one another. Harper Sloan is so talented at describing the alternate reality we escape to when reading this book.

She gave the characters an exquisite back story, not to mention it’s not too drawn out. Misunderstandings are cleared up pretty quickly and satisfactorily.

The sex scenes are so damn hot and descriptive. But they are definitely overpowering the original plot line. The delicate mixture of erotica with romantic drama is done so well.

Highly recommend! 4.5/5
