Extra, in your face fashion, draping and luxurious feel of a garmet. That’s exactly what Gaurav Gupta creates. He’s one of the few Indian designers that make opulent evening gowns. It takes a certain type of person who can carry the ensemble, but if done right it’s a treat for the eyes.

You know when you read a romance book, and it’s that scene where the ordinary girl dresses up for a party and all eyes are on her? We’re all picturing her in something Gaurav Gupta made.

There is such variety with silhouettes, some crazy avant garde experiments with draping and it all works so well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad Gaurav Gupta outfit. They may not all be on par with his own expectations, but to an amateur like me they’re all stunning. We have big voluminous gowns and skin tight dresses as well.

Not only is the feminine clothing absolutely stunning, a suit made by Gaurav Gupta makes any man look panty dropping gorgeous. They’re so well tailored and each one has something unique about it – whether it’s the embroidery or the layering of the collars, or you know.. the casual cape.

One of my favorite parts of this brand is the draping of fabrics. Draping and layering. In my opinion I don’t think any other Indian designer does it as well. I can’t wait for the day Gaurav Gupta gets labelled as haute couture, he fits the style so well. And his couture is not just evening gowns or dresses! He makes the most stunning ethnic lenghas.

You know I’m always looking for something different, something unique. If I were to wear a Guarav Gupta outfit, there is no chance someone will be wearing something similar. The styling needed is so minimal because the outfit itself is a statement piece.

It takes a lot of confidence to wear something by Gaurav Gupta. Not because it’s scandalous or anything, but because it’s a lot. Someone withh a petite frame can easily get drowned by all the fabric if not carried well. The hair and makeup need to be done in a such a way that they don’t take away from the outfit, they need to compliment it. Otherwise it will seem like way too much going on way too quickly.

Gaurav Gupta is a magnificent Indian designer. All his work reflects his own personal sense of style. His draping and layering techniques remind me the likes of Elie Saab. He’s headed in that direction if he keeps on doing him. The consistency and luxurious feel of each ensemble is quite unique to him, in terms of Indian designers. I can’t see what more he does, this is one of those designers that has me so curious!
