It’s very easy to find intricate bridal party, or heavy pieces in the Indian designer fashion industry. But the issue is usually finding something that is a little more casual/formal that at the same time is elegant and feminine. Mahima Mahajan is that nice in the Indian fashion industry. We have such an acute modernization of traditional ethnic features.
Fabrics are flown, prints may be repetitive but fresh, the colors are what really make everyone pop. There is subtle beading, but the focus is definitely on the delicate prints. In my opinion it’s what House of Masaba is, but without the quirky bits. Also a lot more consistency in terms of hits.

The designs themselves are beautiful, different silhouettes in multiple prints is their signature. What really makes the outfit though is the way it is styled and accessorized. The way someone walks, the shoes that elevate the draping, the way the dupatta is placed all really takes everything to a whole new level. Independently Mahima Mahjan makes stunning clothing, but if styled correctly they number of occasions you can wear one piece is multiplied.
Of course we know Kareena can carry a garbage bag, but in this instance I want to talk more about Tapsee’s fit. She normally has too much going on, but in this case the too much is working in her favour. The headband jewelry not only makes her stand out, but we are also entranced with the immense amount of fabric revolving around her. It just works.

Like I said the color palette is a bit repetitive, I wish Mahima would experiment a little bit more with a bolder spectrum. But sometimes there’s also the thought of: why try to fix something that isn’t broken?
The little bit of experimentation with silhouettes is subtly noticelable now. We have lenghas with ruffled layering, ruffled dupattas/sleeves, and of course the westernized three piece sets. It’s simplicity done well. Even the more westernized outfits are wearable at any occasion without looking garish or ‘too much’. Style anything however you want and it’ll look like you’ve put in so much thought into the entire ensemble.

Mahima Mahajan has seriously stepped up her game in the recent years. The contrasting of colors that was missing before has been achieved, there is more experimentation with colors with monochromatic backdrops, along with silhouettes that have subtle changes to the traditional look. It all works so well. They do this all while staying true to their roots: feminine, delicate, and flowy. The repetitive prints and colors are now more quirky and elegant.
Like I said Mahima Mahajan has seriously stepped up her designing games in recent years. Earlier on she was in the category of Picchika, now she’s a fusion of the former with the likes of House of Masaba – except done better. Every time a celebrity wears her outfits most fashion enthusiasts are asking: who is she wearing?
I didn’t have the chance of delving more into Mahima Mahjan men’s fashion, but from what I did see it was cutting-edge and daring. Her fashion photography concepts are so pleasing to the eye.
I will definitely be investing in this brand, it easily became a quick favourite.
