Stars Hallow is a cup of coffee on a chilly autumn or winter morning. It’s oh so comforting and an embrace of warmth. That was probably one of the main reasons why Gilmore Girls was as massive as it was. The show makers created this alternate reality and enveloped an atmosphere that all of us gravitated towards.

Then they threw in the quirky characters, all with a different personality traits that they brought to the show. Along with conflict, the humor, the setting – they made all the concepts intermingle with each other. All in all not only a really well thought out show, but excellent execution.

I absolutely adore Loreli. I feel for her, she was born into a family she never thought she fit into. She was this free spirit that was trying to be controlled, and of course the inevitable happened – shit hit the fan.
But what did Loreli do? She picked herself back up, built a different life around her, all while staying true to herself. She raised a daughter with whom she was best friends with, she created tradition and occasions that balanced out Rory’s life. Had Rory been raised by her grandparents she would’ve been the stuck up rich girl we saw her turn into.

Rory’s journey is probably one of my favorite ones on television. We saw so many of her flaws, her experiences, and the amount she was disappointed and hit with the hard truth that is life. I did not expect that when I first started watching Gilmore Girls. I was shocked when she was told she would make a bad journalist, because it was so obvious from the beginning, but I really didn’t expect it to be voiced.

Rory is a vastly disliked character in today’s Gilmore Girls universe. As a person yes I agree she’s not the best, but as a character I love her. We saw how she had to be the responsible one around her mom – even though thats not true. We saw her struggling to figure out who she really is, who she wanted to date, what she wanted to be. It was so well done, only then was the fanbase able to elicit such a reaction.

Now onto my favorite character: Paris. Paris was the most obnoxious individual when we first meet her. Slowly we realize the reasons for why she is the way she is. She eventually becomes this endearing person who is a fiercely loyal friend. She accepts all the crap she is handed and keeps on trudging along – over course it’s never trudging when it’s Paris. Paris worked hard for what she had, she earned everything she got later on in life, in all honesty I thought she deserved better.
She was and is still weird. But that’s just Paris. Paris is still figuring out how to be human.

Gilmore Girls is such a favorite for everyone, it’s such a reprise from reality. While at the same time it gives us hope and direction in our own realities. If a tv show were a season, Gilmore Girls would be fall undoubtedly. Stars Hallow with all its minor characters and celebration made the little town so attractive to the viewer. We all wanted to be a part of that world, while at the same time following the character journeys.

Now if we start talking about A Year In The Life… I refuse to acknowledge that it exists.
