The Crown Season 1 easily became one of the favourite television shows. Now let me specify again: SEASON 1. Everything about this season was magical, the storyline, the actors, everything was sensational. It probably helped that a lot of people didn’t know the story pre Queen Elizabeth. It definitely wasn’t as well known as the later events of the Royal Family.
Special shout out to Vanessa Kirby, Claire Foy, and Matt Smith – they made that first what it was with their jam packed talent.
Now that being said, the momentum was lost with later seasons. I know this is going to be a very unpopular opinion, but once they switched the Queen to being played by Olivia Coleman I had an extremely hard time keeping interest. I’m going to get so much hate, but I found her to be way too expressive and the accent extremely off.

We come to Season 5 now that just came out, and in the beginning I was not at all a fan of Imelda. The more the season went on, the more I was believing she was the queen. Her accent was perfect, her mannerisms were very similar to how Claire Foy portrayed her. I’m sure Olivia Coleman did a great job in her own way, but the continuity just got thrown off for me.

But one thing that has definitely impressed as the seasons went on is the new bunch of actors and actresses. They were all extremely talented… especially Elizabeth Debicki and Emma Corrin – the actresses that play Diana. They both embodied different parts of her life – the innocent little girl to the confident bitter woman. The continuity carried throughout.
The only qualm I had with Season 5 is the amount of focus on Charles and Diana. I think one of the most intriguing part of season one was the fact that to most the story was relatively unknown. They could have included so much more in season 4-5 that didn’t necessarily revolve around Charles and Diana. Maybe a little more on Princess Anne? I don’t think it was necessary for one entire episode to be dedicated to their divorce. I loved the side stories – the Russians, Mou, Mou. Very anticlimactic way to end the season.
Another qualm? Another episode dedicated to Princess Margaret was not necessary. Things were drawn out, when so much more could be fit in.

The show itself has been really well made. The fact that we see the flaws in Diana, and garner a little sympathy for Camilla is kind of a wild thought. We get to see more of William, and how they were manipulated, it was absolutely heartbreaking. It was all around a bad situation with a backdrop of the queen being disliked. The one saving grace was the queen trying to shield William and Harry. She was so cute with them.
It’s a fascinating partially fictional portrayal of the longest running monarchy in the world. Now I’m not at all a Monarchist but at the same time it’s just fascinating to see that the family that portrays being this epitome of perfection had their own tragedies, and in all honesty in the past 2-3 decades has turned into a total train wreck.
They show the good and bad sides, the fact that nobody wants to let go of the privilege, but at the same time they struggle to keep in the public eye. We know how the story plays out, a lot of them chose the lives they had.
Anyone know when season 6 is coming out?
