Haute Couture is always a treat to appreciate. But Indian Haute Couture has a different appeal to it. First of all it’s not as common as pret-a-porter designs in India, and second they experimentation done with ethnic Haute Couture is always done so well. Rahul Mishra is no exception, he combines the traditional Indian embellishments with an air of modernization.

Rahul Mishra has a fascination with florals, not spring exclusive. He has an eye for grandeur and it’s done so beautifully. Along with his more avant garde designs, there also is the traditional classic ethnic looks. But these are anything but repetitive or classic, even they have an air of couture to them.

He plays with not only designs, but his silhouette game is probably one of the best in the industry. He experiments so much with volume and fabrics but every time it looks like high fashion and not tacky at all. His addition of feathers is probably one of my favourite aspects about the brand, it give and edge of fun to the ensemble.

Rahul Mishra makes ethnic Indian and classical western gowns both equally exquisitely. The western gowns never look incompletely, they have a touch of his signature style along with being fitted perfectly to the individual wearing the piece.

His love for colors is done so well. It’s an assortment of colors from all ends of the spectrum, yet the backdrop is so that it just works. Accessorizing and styling the ensembles might not be as easy as other brands, but it’s so worth it when done right. There’s so much going on in terms of silhouettes, fabrics, threads, sequins, feathers that the styling has to the reflect the same. There’s the option of matching everything, but if done right some contrasting colors make everything pop more.

Rahul Mishra has not only excellent in the Bollywood industry, but he has broken into the western Hollywood world. Like I said his designs are so versatile they’re wearable by anyone. All ends of the spectrum are covered by Mishra.

The attention to detail is amazing. Full sleeves with cuffs, waist pinching belts, back collars, flared pains, layered lenghas. See what I mean? There’s so much going on and I haven’t even included the embroidery and fabrics yet. But it’s never tacky, it’s always so stunning. Appealing to the eye, and every time you look back and look there’s always something new to discover.

Rahul Mishra designs are a staple in the Indian Fashion industry, but the face behind the designs rarely does the general public know. He has his own lane of what he does, and does it so well. I feel like Rahul Mishra is what PDP desires to be (my apologies if that sounds harsh). While PDP comes across as garish, Mishra comes across as elegant.
It’s difficult to find and Indian designer that are experimental and still wearable. It’s either usually too much, or too little. But Rahul Mishra broke those barriers and his creativity shines throughout his pieces. Haute Couture done right in India is a much needed section of fashion and it’s done so well by Rahul Mishra.
