There’s something to be said for costume designers. A lot of the time they can make or break the show. Now something like Killing Eve, it would have been very easy to dress Villanelle with lots of black and shades of grey. The fashion game they gave Villanelle, in my opinion, is the best fashion game on television to ever exist.
A blend of quirky styles and fabrics. She has every single type of style incorporated and yet somehow managed to create her own signature. There’s colors, there’s different sillouhetes, there’s patterns, and most of all: there’s inspiration.

Now I know, at first glance most of these ensembles seem intimidating and unwearable. But if worn with enough finesse anyone could pull these off. There’s some avant guarde, je ne said quoi type of vibes going on – kind of adds to her character. Now if we look at these three above, there’s dark pattern with a pop of purple, there’s florals with pops of color. But statement piece is the most bland – one color, but the silhouette and the sheer volume of fabric makes it everything.
Styling pieces like these would not be as easy as grabbing something from the closet and throwing them on. These are statement pieces that carefully need to be put together like a puzzle.

None of these pieces should look as couture, but they are. We start with a pattern bold coloured dress, where the focal point is definitely the boots. Then we have casual daisy dukes with a very upscale blouse – classy casual? Then we having something out there, feathers fitted jacket, flared pants, stockings, with smaller sized sneakers. The attention paid to silhouettes is amazing. The last one is patterned pants, plain white tshrit – now this already goes together. Add in the pink blazer and its tying the outfit together more than the blaring contrast.
Attention to detail is immaculate. One thing that usually is pretty consistent is her makeup. Hair, accessories, shoes, clothing are given more a front row seat. Rightfully so.

The chair always compliments whatever Villanelle is wearing, the shoes are always a treat, and my favourite accessory is the jewelry. There’s the rare occasion when there will be dainty jewelry, but most of the time she either forgoes it completely or goes with chunky in your face pieces.
Villanelle has the wardrobe we all aspire to have. But it’s not as easy owning the clothing, to make an outfit takes patience and an experimental nature. If we get into the mind of the character and think like her – imagine Villanelle every morning opening her closet. She will pick one thing that she decides everything else will revolve around. From there on it’s always adding to enhance the statement piece, not making pretty clothes match. It’s an art form and not at all for everyone.
I totally get her shopping addiction. Putting together pieces that ultimately become an outfit – it’s so satisfying.
Villanelle’s fashion game is enviable.
