Just recently started a rewatch.. again. I forgot how much I loved the easy to follow structure of this television show. It’s a comfort watch. It has the classical sitcom layout, but with the backdrop of individuals struggling to exist in the reword.
Whoever came up with the premise, I doubt they had planned it out this far, but its really a great continuation of the initial foundation.

Watching Young Sheldon recently makes a lot of what happened in TBBT make sense. I started the show not really liking any of the main characters, but the interactions they had with each other were hilarious. Slowly we started to see more glimpses of why each character was the way they were – flashbacks were my favourite part of the series.

They had real issues in the form of ‘nerds’. Like the rest of us they were figuring out their own problems and at the same time trying to solve string theory or whatever. The makers of the show also showed the not so nice aspects of less conventional individuals. Lets all be honest here, Sheldon is a great character and he’s become iconic for a reason, but none of us would want to live with him. Being friends with him in the beginning already seems so difficult.

The show came with so many tag lines and iconic moments. Rock Paper Scissors lizard Spock, bazinga, etc. The writes need to be appreciated so much.
Every character brought something to the show, the thing they never skimped out on was making them all interact with each other separately and build bonds within the core group. Sheldon and Penny was probably my favourite duo. Absolute opposites but at the same time helped each other grow.

Howard was another one of my favourites. He was a perv yes, but he changed in the most amazing way after he had kids. Sure he changed after getting married, but he was still a mama’s boy. He eventually turned out to be a great husband, his mother passing was insanely heartbreaking. His whole dynamic with her and finding balance in his own life was so well done. Not to mention he’s definitely much smarter than how Sheldon portrays him.
Kudos to the hair and makeup team – made all these extremely attractive men look questionable.

If you haven’t seen it, TBBT is a watch that is for everyone. Comfort shows are where it’s at. They will always have this longevity that keeps going for generations to come. They did such a good job with this one, and the prequel ‘Young Sheldon’ is gaining immense popularity as well. We’re all curious as to why Sheldon is the way he is.
I have a soft spot for any show like this one, you don’t have to pay extreme attention to love it. You’re in a bad mood? No need to have an entire back story, you can put on any episode. You want to check out from reality? Watch Sheldon literally try to exist in reality. Love everything about this show.
Bonus: the graphic novel, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, Star Wars, DC/Marvel references. I’m honestly a true nerd at heart.
