Anamika Khanna may not be a household entity, but she has created a whole genre of Indian fashion that was never done so well before. If punk rock were to meet classic Indian ethnic fashion you would get Anamika Khanna. The fact that more celebs are branching out to her bridal collections speaks for itself.

Shes a veteran in the fashion game, not only does she create these outfits, her styling game is on point. The pieces are always ‘different’, nothing anyone else is doing at the moment.

She started so many trends in the Indian fashion game – the main one being the blazer/shrug over sarees/lenghas. This is something that is still considered fashionable and trendy. Everything done by Anamika Khanna is something that is not easily replicable. Let me rephrase that: it might be possible to replicate but to outright buy pieces in the market similar to AK, not so easy.

Along with the embroidery, the prints, the color schemes, one thing she does really well is silhouettes. They are traditional ethnic silhouettes with just one or two things that are a little different. It ends up modernizing the entire look.

One thing that I appreciate so much about the brand is definitely the detail to sleeves. AK puts emphasis on full sleeves so much and honestly it’s one of my favourite fashion trends. A full sleeve immediately elevates a look. She makes punk rock Indian look so chic with just this one detail.

Styling an AK piece is honestly not that difficult. The piece is already so busy on its own, minimal accessories will make it stand out. Any makeup and hair suits most of the outfits.

I wish more designers did this, making styling easy and accessible.

Sonam Kapoor is someone who does fashion extremely well. She may have her favourite brands, but for me Sonam and AK are a match made in heaven. She carries each outfit regally and I also feel she is one of the few that will wear the ‘out there’ pieces and make it work. Her accessorizing, hair and makeup honestly are so well thought out, it just makes the AK piece be appreciated more.

AK is definately not a novice when it comes to Indian fashion, she has made her mark and is going to never be pushed out of her lane. There is no one in the industry right now that does what she does better. Grungy Indian is not an easy feat, she does it so well and makes it chic all at the same time.

I know I say this all the time, but Anamika Khanna will for sure be my reception fit… if it ever happens.
