This was the first Indian designer I discovered when I started following Indian fashion. The delicate designs drew my eye immediately. The hand embroidery, color combinations, the intricate designs – I was drawn to it all. At this point, my naive self decided this was my dream brand. It’s good to know looking back I had excellent taste.

I’m not to sure why but I wish we saw more of Anita Dongre for bridal looks. The Indian fashion industry is definitely over saturated but Anita Dongre still manages to stand out. Her designs are timeless, quality of work is always impeccable, and the best part? She compensates artists liberally.
The more I talk about her, the more anyone would fall for her more. She’s in her lane, making pieces that speak to her and to all generations.

I don’t want to say she’s underrated, but shes definately does fly under the radar. Theres multiple brands that don’t really advertise as much, Anita Dongre is one of those that doesn’t need to. Her pieces speak for themselves. Me, my mother, and my grandmother all can find something to wear for an event. Thats saying something.
Every piece is so unique to itself, but at the same time she has a signature look to all her pieces. People can look from afar and recognize it’s an Anita Dongre piece. Iconic.

A lot of designers have tried to do the velvet look. Velvet is a rich fabric, and Anita Dongre seems to understand that. She pairs most velvets with dark shades and it looks like royalty. The designs are intricate but definitely not minimal. From churidars to lenghas, the velvet collection is one of the most stunning. She chose the most beautiful colours and the embroidery is just… chef’s kiss!

Another brand I would like to say – ‘ if you’re looking into Indian designer wear, do not sleep on this brand!’. It’s criminally underrated in the western world. Anita Dongre and team have held an extremely strong place in the Indian fashion industry, rightfully so. One piece from this brand will be timeless forever, there is no going out of fashion with Anita Dongre. Generations to come I see it growing to be one of the most accessible and versatile Indian brands.
